
The following descriptions are intended to serve only as an overview. Specific job descriptions are
available. Overnight camp staff typically work 6 days per week, with at least 24 hours off between
sessions. Staff also get at least 2 hours off per day and 1 additional evening off per week.
WATERFRONT STAFF
Waterfront Director
Minimum Age: 21 years
Current Water Safety Instructor and/or Lifeguard Training, BLS/CPR and Community First Aid and Safety
or equivalent, and supervisory experience required. Develop and implement an integrated program of
waterfront activities including swimming instruction. Manage waterfront operations and supervise
waterfront staff. Keep facilities clean, neat and in accordance with pool and health requirements.
Waterfront Specialist
Minimum Age: 18 years
Current Lifeguard Training, BLS/CPR and Community First Aid and Safety or equivalent required; Small
Craft Certification preferred at some camps. Lifeguard at the pool or lake. Assist in teaching
swimming/boating lessons and with waterfront related program and maintenance operations. Assist
with all-camp projects and program.
COUNSELING AND PROGRAM STAFF
Unit Leader
Minimum Age: 21 years
Develop and implement unit program based on camp goals and utilizing girl partnership in planning.
Lead a small staff team including supervision of unit counselors. Leadership and supervisory experience
and First Aid and Safety or equivalent required. Previous Girl Scout, camp and/or program and
supervisory experience preferred. Must be energetic, creative, and able to follow safety rules and
regulations, and enjoy working with and leading young girls. It is helpful to have outdoor experience,
enjoy the out-of-doors, and have the desire to share your enjoyment with the campers.
Unit Counselor
Minimum Age: 18 years
Assist in developing and implementing unit program. Work directly with girls in small groups to provide
fun, high quality program experience. Camping, leadership, and Girl Scout program experience
preferred. First Aid and Safety certification preferred. Must be energetic, creative, and able to
follow safety rules and regulations, and enjoy working with and leading young girls. It is helpful to have
outdoor experience, enjoy the out-of-doors, and have the desire to share your enjoyment with the
campers.
Leadership Program Director
Minimum Age: 21 years
Responsible for teen leadership programs, including Counselor-in-Training and Counselor Apprentice
programs. Must have a working knowledge of youth leadership models. Previous camping experience
preferred. Prefer at least 21 years old.
Trip Director
Minimum Age: 21 years
Leads, with a Unit Counselor, a backpack, canoe, or bike trip each camp session. Responsible for
preparing girls for each trip, teaching safety guidelines, and leading on-trail program. Wilderness
travel experience required. Wilderness First Aid Certification preferred.
SPECIALISTS
Arts & Crafts Specialist
Minimum Age: 18
Develop and implement a craft program to support camp objectives. Organize scheduling, maintain
crafts facility, inventory, equipment and supplies. Assist with all-camp projects and program.
Knowledge and experience in arts, crafts required; previous specific camping, Girl Scout, and craft
experience desirable.
Program Specialist - Sports or Nature
Minimum Age: 18
Develop and implement a specialty program as determined by the camp director that supports unit and
camp objectives. Organize scheduling of archery and sports course; maintain nature center, inventory,
equipment and supplies. Assist with all-camp projects and program. Knowledge, education and/or
experience in natural sciences or environmental studies required: archery certification, camping and
Girl Scout experience preferred.
Camp Nurse
Minimum Age: 21
Oversee all health care in the camp. Administer first aid as needed and as dictated by a doctor’s
standing orders. Supervise and run the health center. Train the camp staff in their duties as related to
safety and first aid. Complete all required paperwork for the health center. Organize health history
forms for incoming campers and contact parents if forms are missing. MA RN/LPN license required.
Business Manager
Minimum Age: 21
Operates camp store and completes weekly shopping trip. Must have experience in purchasing supplies,
coordinating various business activities, and knowledge of bookkeeping systems and office procedures.
Prefer at least 21 years old, with valid driver’s license.
FOOD SERVICE
Head Cook
Prepares meals for up to 150 campers and staff, supervises kitchen staff, maintains records, and
oversees the compliance with local and state health codes. Works with Food Service Supervisor to
plan meals and order food. Must have experience in quantity cooking and supervision. Must complete
MA food safety course before employment start date.
Kitchen Assistant
Minimum Age: 16
General kitchen responsibilities, assistance in food preparation, packing food for cookouts, clean-up in
kitchen.
